Wildlife Awareness Program

Protecting the scaled guardians of our ecosystem and Protecting the future of our planet.

Wildlife conservation is the practice of protecting and preserving species and their habitats. It helps in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, supports biodiversity, and ensures the long-term survival of the planet. Despite several wildlife conservation projects, many species still face threats such as habitat loss, poaching, climate change, and human-wildlife conflict.

On June 13th, 2024, Prudence International School conducted a wildlife awareness program to educate our students and teachers about wildlife conservation and promote coexistence with wildlife. This program also aimed to raise awareness about conserving and rescuing snakes, a vital element of the ecosystem. The chief guest was Mr. Mahesh, Deputy Range Forest Officer, Karnataka Forest Department, Huliyurudurga Range, Tumkuru.

The program was conducted by Vipin Roy Sia, co-founder of the organization WEROAR.org. He has been actively involved in wild animal rescues, rehabilitation, and awareness in and around Tumkur, with over 8,000 rescues to his credit. He has also assisted in research work on the yellow-throated bulbul and the discovery of two new snake species in Tumkur, namely Lycodondeccanensis and Uropeltisjerdoni.

The other speaker at the program was Mr. Surya Keerthi, a dedicated and passionate animal rescuer and wildlife conservationist with over 13 years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation, conservation projects, and public education.

Snakes play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. Many snake species face threats such as habitat destruction, hunting, and climate change. Snakes help maintain ecosystem harmony and are instrumental in the development of life-saving medicines derived from venomous snakes.

The program was informative and included videos to educate the children about various snakes (venomous and non-venomous), their food habits, habitats, and first aid for snake bites. It was a joyful session for our children to meet Mr. Surya Keerthi, son of Snake Shyam. Education and raising awareness about the importance of snakes and their conservation reduces human-snake conflict.

Wildlife conservation is crucial for maintaining ecosystem balance and biodiversity.
